Making Manu Tukutuku with Harko Brown and teaching it to my class at Tautoro.
This is the Maori New Year and the season to make Maori kites.
Kia Ora! Tautoro is a small country school located 10 minutes out of Kaikohe. We are a collaborative classroom made up of 32 year 6, 7 & 8 tamariki. We speak both Māori and English and love sharing our learning with each other, whanau, our community, and the wider world. Our focus this year is to build student agency so our tamariki are the sole drivers of their learning. Nga mihi nui ki a koutou katoa, Na Whaea Gaylene & Whaea Virginia.

Te Karere o Tautoro (News Item)
E mihi ana ahau ki oku tauira mo tenei mahi.
E ako ana ratou ki te korero tetahi atu panui harihari mo ta tatou tupuna tino nanakia ko Maui.
Mauri ora ki a koutou nga putiputi!
The tuakana of room 4 have put together a news item in te reo maori. Their task was to come up with an idea of how to present to an audience the story of our tupuna Maui and how he fished up the North Island of New Zealand. In order to do this they scanned various sites retelling the story of Maui. As a result they came up with this brilliant idea. A news item called Te Karere o Tautoro.
Titiro, whakarongo! ENJOY :)

Te Ataarangi
Room 4 is learning te reo maori through Te Ataarangi method. Their goal is to korero how to get from one place to another, using the kupu 'Kohea nga ara mai i te whare kowhai ki te whare kikorangi?'
They would then have to answer with "Ko ma te ara mai i te whare kowhai ki te whare kikorangi.
