Returning to school. Our new normal.

Tena Koutou katoa,

As thousands of us adjust to a new way of living across the country - many of you will be wondering how our school, class, and community will meet the demands of delivering learning in an online environment.  Thankfully, we are already well equipped to meet this challenge head-on.

Firstly, it isn't new or daunting for the students in our classroom.  Yes, we do have a few who have issues to access to devices or workable and affordable internet plans.  Their households will be sent learning packs to support their child's education at this time.

Fortunately for us, many of our students are able to attend online learning sessions through 'Google Meet' at regular times every day.  They have access to their class learning sites, and often have one-to-one tutorials with Mary & I for added support, should they need it.

Our students have met this challenge head-on.  Mary and I can confidently say that even our parents have gained clarity into the uniqueness of learning whilst in lockdown for their students.  Some students have identified the need to have their own space, away from their siblings.  Many of our students just enjoy the social interactions that take place when we're all together again in a learning forum.

At this stage we haven't met with many challenges...some lagging issues, however nothing too distracting, that would interrupt the workflow.  Please feel free to visit our learning site so you can see what they are doing during this time.

I just wanted to congratulate Room 7 - Te Puawaitanga for being the amazing, resilient and self-managing students that you have grown to be in such a short space of time.  Also, to our extended teaching staff, principal and in particular Whaea Raechel & Whaea Annie, for you continued support for our tamariki.  Nga mihi nui ki a koutou.

Na Whaea Gaylene.
